The "Envirowoolly® Family"

NEW for 2016-2017

Tastex's Fary Penguin Envirowoolly

I'm a cute little Fairy Penguin. I live in burrow in my colony and I am a great swimmer. My scientific name, Eudyptula minor, means I am the smallest of all penguins and a "good little diver."

Tastex has released two new additions to the Envirowoolly range during 2016–2017. The latest is the Fairy Penguin—a cute little penguin that can be found in coastal location of southern Australia and New Zealand. The Fairy Penguin is the world's smallest penguin at around 30cm tall—a nocturnal penguin that comes inshore at dusk and leaves before dawn. Our little knitted Fairy Penguin is less shy and enjoys cuddles in the daylight.

Made from all new materials Fairy Penguin is knitted, embroidered and assembled in our factory at Glenorchy. Fairy Penguin is a great toy and is proving to be a popular gift with tourists to Tasmania.

Fairy Penguin joins our Blue Tongue Lizard released earlier this year. Blue Tongued Lizard is available in grey or brown markings. Tastex blue tongued lizards are knitted in grey toned wool and filled with new wool stuffing. Their features, eyes and spots, are embroidered. These little fellows, like all our Envirowoolly® range, are machine washable and safe toys for young for children.

Our Envirowoolly® story...

First came the “Critter”, cute little toys made from scrap woolen offcuts, destined for our factory outlet shop.

envirobear

Envirobear can be individualised
with your school crest and colours

Then came the “Enviro Bear”, originally made for Canberra Girl’s Grammar School, he is proving to be an extremely popular fellow with schools who want a keepsake for year 12 students. Bear can be individualised by incorporating school colours and the school crest.

Sometimes a new friend may be just the thing when a bit of encouragement is needed to leave Mum behind at the start of a new kindergarten year!

“Enviro Bear” was followed by the “Mini Enviro Bear”. He is a smaller bear, easier for young children to handle. Sometimes a new friend may be just the thing when a bit of encouragement is needed to leave Mum behind at the start of a new kindergarten year!

Our latest innovation is the “Envirowoolly” range of Australian animals, which is aimed at the niche local tourist market. We currently produce a Tassie Devil, Tassie Tiger, Koala, Wombat, Platypus and both a black and a white sheep. Envirowoollys fill a gap in the market for locally made animals which appeal to our growing tourist industry.

tassie-devil

Our cute little "Tassie Devil" has become an ambassador around the world and helps raise funds for saving the Tasmanian Devil population which has been decimated by
Devil Facial Tumour Disease.

A number of Tasmanian tourist ventures are selling our “Envirowoollys”, including The Tasmanian Devil Park, Bonorong Wildlife Sanctury, Made in Tasmania, Salamanca and the Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery. Saffire Freycinet has "adopted" our Tasmanian Devil as part of its promotion of the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program. Read more about the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program.

Envirowoolly platypus

Our newest edition to the Envirowoolly® family, "Platypus", like his real world namesake, is always at home by streams and river banks.

The demand for Tastex's Envirowoollys is growing steadily, with suggestions that we might add to our “Envirowoolly” family. Perhaps a Spotted Quoll next! What an exciting prospect!

Envirowoollys are sustainable and enviromentally friendly

Envirowoollys: Sustainable and enviromentally friendly

Our Critters, Bears and Envirowoollys are all made from knitted woollen offcuts. Their filling is made from our own recycled waste wool product which makes them both sustainable and environmentally friendly.

The Envirowoollys have been a great hit with our Supported Employees as they enjoy making these cute little fellows! They also provide an ideal training opportunity for practicing sewing skills and improving hand, eye co-ordination techniques.

koala in a gum tree

Koalas love eucalyptus trees and leaves and our little fellow, Envirowoolly® Koala, is no exception.

These innovative toys are not only fun to make, they are providing Tastex with both ongoing training opportunities for Supported Employees and a welcome additional income stream.
