Meet Wesley the Wombat

Wesley the Wombat’s prehistoric relatives were called Diprotodons, which were around two metres tall. Modern Wombats are much smaller and thought to be slow. In fact, they are very strong and can run at 40 km/h.

Wombats’ teeth keep growing so they can eat as much grass, roots, shrubs, and vegetables as they want. It takes up to six days for them to digest their food.

Although Koalas are sometimes compared to bears, they are the Wombat’s closest relatives. Both marsupials have backward-facing pouches. This is especially useful for Wombats so they don’t get dirt in their pouches while digging.
